Offhand

Record a meeting, a call, or a thought. Ask about it later in plain language. It runs right here in your browser.

What it does

Privacy, in one paragraph

Every recording — made here or on a phone — is uploaded and transcribed by AssemblyAI, our transcription provider. That is how a note gets made. On the phone the live text you see while you talk comes from the device's own recognizer and is never uploaded; the recording itself still is. Audio is encrypted, and deleted as soon as its transcript is saved to your note; we ask AssemblyAI to delete their copy at the same moment. A recording whose transcription failed is kept so it can be retried, until it succeeds or you delete the note. The privacy policy says exactly what the code does, including what AssemblyAI keeps, and changes in the same commit the code does.

Offhand shares its sign-in with Grounders and ItsRadio: the phone number you use in one works in the others. There are native apps for iPhone and Android too, for recording from a locked screen — but nothing here needs them.
